Representing the State of West Virginia, students from PCTC joined other CTE students from across the state to attend the 2016 SkillsUSA National Conference in Louisville, KY. Of the 14 medals brought home by WV competitors, almost 3/4 of them (70%!) were earned by PCTC students!

The Hospitality 100 list is comprised of high schools and tech centers that excel in the areas of Culinary Arts, Baking & Pastry Arts and/or Hospitality Management. Some are competition winners from FCCLA, Pro Start and Skills USA within a particular region. The committee also conducts research to establish schools with strong hospitality enrollment and influence in their community. Included are many schools the committee specifically pay visits to that they deem to have strong hospitality studies programs. See all 100 schools here.
A team of two students from the Putnam County Career and Technical Center in Eleanor took home silver medals in the first-ever Additive Manufacturing competition at the SkillsUSA state championships in Bridgeport on April 16. Additive Manufacturing, which is better known as “3D printing,” was first introduced as a demonstration event at the 2015 SkillsUSA National Championships, according to the Robert C. Byrd Institute for Advanced Flexible Manufacturing, which hosted the 3D printing competition in Bridgeport. Saturday, April 16, 2016 marked the annual West Virginia SkillsUSA Conference at Camp Dawson (near Kingwood, WV). Putnam Career and Technical Center Principal Mike Erwin said the school, which offers 18 different programs, did well. “There were well over 50 competitions. From this school, we had 22 gold medal winners, 20 silver medal winners and one bronze,” Erwin said, adding that many of the medals went to teams of students. Team members earned a combined total of $30,000+ in scholarships as a result of their hard work.
